Terms of service

Last updated: 14 October 2026

About these terms

PortraitMix is run by PortraitMix Corp, a company in Alberta, Canada (“we”). These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use PortraitMix. By using it, you accept them.

Who can use PortraitMix

You must be an adult (18, or the age of majority where you live) to use PortraitMix and to buy from it.

How it works

You upload photos, we make a free preview with AI, and you decide whether to buy it. AI results vary: a portrait may not capture someone the way you hoped, which is why you see it before you pay. The portrait you buy is the one in your preview, so check its names, dates and spelling before you pay.

Your photos

Upload only photos you have the right to use. Everyone in them must be happy for you to make a portrait of them; for a child, that means their parent or guardian.

Your photos stay yours. You let us use them only to make, deliver and support your portraits, for as long as we keep them (see the privacy policy).

If someone claims a photo you uploaded wasn’t yours to use, that claim is your responsibility, as far as the law allows.

What you can’t make

Don’t upload or ask for:

  • Nudity or sexual content, and nothing sexual or demeaning involving a child, ever.
  • Anyone who hasn’t agreed to it, or a portrait meant to deceive people about who someone is or what they did.
  • Hateful, harassing or violent content.
  • Photos, logos or artwork belonging to someone else without their permission.
  • Anything illegal where you or the people pictured live.

Don’t use bots or scripts, copy the site’s content in bulk, or get around the limits on free previews.

We may refuse to make a portrait, remove one, or stop you using PortraitMix if these rules are broken. Our AI providers also refuse some content; a refused preview isn’t retried elsewhere.

Your portrait

Once you’ve paid, you may use your portrait however you like, personal or commercial: print it, share it, give it, sell it or publish it. No credit to us is needed.

Two things we can’t give you. A portrait isn’t exclusive: the same style can make similar-looking portraits for other customers. And in some countries AI-made images aren’t protected by copyright, so we can’t promise you could stop others copying yours.

The site itself, our brand, and our style templates as templates stay ours. Your portrait’s licence covers them as part of your portrait, not to copy on their own.

Previews are watermarked until you buy. We won’t use your portrait in advertising or on our site without your permission.

Prices and payment

Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay; the total at checkout is what you’re charged. Your bank may add a currency conversion fee. Payments are processed securely by Stripe (PCI DSS Level 1); we never see your card details. If a price is shown by obvious mistake, we may cancel the order and refund it in full.

Delivery

Digital files are ready in your gallery, and linked in your order email, as soon as you pay. Canvases are made to order and shipped to the address you give at checkout. Delivery dates are estimates; carriers sometimes run late.

Refunds

Our refund & replacement policy explains when we replace or refund an order.

Changes to the service

We may change, add or retire styles, products and features. A change never affects a portrait you’ve already bought.

Our responsibility

PortraitMix is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running and to make good portraits, but we can’t promise it will always be available, or that a portrait will look the way you expected.

As far as the law allows, our total liability for any claim is the amount you paid for the order concerned or US$100, whichever is more, and we’re not liable for indirect losses such as lost profits or data. Nor are we liable for delays caused by things outside our control, such as a provider or carrier outage.

Nothing in these terms limits a right or a liability that the law where you live doesn’t allow to be limited.

Copyright complaints

If you think something on PortraitMix uses your work or your image without permission, write to us through our contact page with what it is, where it appears, and why it’s yours. We’ll look into it and remove it if it shouldn’t be there.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Alberta settle any dispute. If you’re a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protections of your own country’s consumer law, and can bring a claim in your local courts.

Please write to us first, before disputing a charge with your bank too. Most problems are fixed quickly that way.

General

If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. We may transfer these terms to a company that takes over PortraitMix; your rights under them stay the same.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update them here and change the date above. The terms in force when you place an order apply to that order.
